Who Killed John Henry?

Hi - for all you rock blues, R&B fans out there - the sublime Joe Bonamassa has a new album coming out later this month! The album is called "Who Killed John Henry?" - John Henry being a great American working class hero. John Henry was a railroad worker in the mid 19th C. When the boss brought in a steam powered hammer which threatened jobs. John Henry challenged the boss to a race - just him against the steam powered hammer. John won the race - but died doing so.

He has featured in many songs - for more info click on the title of this post!

Can't wait to see Joe at the Royal Albert Hall in June!

Recovery Mode!

Hi

Well - just about recovered from a heavy weekend! Bridport was as usual, dangerous to the liver! Big hello to Mike who runs the George Hotel on South Street - many thanks for your couch ;-)

Spent much of Sunday and this morning editing photos - basking in the glow of Man Utd's win over Tottenham (even if it was on penalties).

Hoping to win more business shooting products/people for websites... more news soon!

White Balance

Most modern digital cameras give you the ability to alter the White Balance setting on your camera. Why is this important? Because it tells the camera what combination of red, green and blue is pure white. The wrong setting can produce unwanted colour casts in your image.

Much of the time the Auto white balance setting will do a good job of rendering accurate colours - but there are many situations where altering your white balance will result in an improved images. Ordinary household lights are incandescent bulbs - and the camera will do a better job if you change the setting to Incandescent.

Most common options:

Sunny/Daylight

Cloudy/overcast

Shade

Fluorescent/Office lighting

Incandescent/house bulbs

Flash

Dig out your camera manual - and find out how to change the white balance setting. It will be normally be a straightforward process.

And finally... Don't forget to check your white balance before every shoot or you will end up with some odd looking shots!

For a more in-depth discussion of white balance and colour temperature - click on title of this post.

An Amazing Ruby!!!

A huge thanks to Vicky for an amazing curry last night! I am definitely the wrong age for post 4.30am bedtime...

Fantastically busy editing phots from the last week. Saturday - I was walking in the Derbshire Hills from Middleton Top. Found a superb pub called the Barley Mow! This was following a fantastic fillet steak and marston's pedigree on the Friday in TheVernon Arms in Sudbury - a place I recommend to everyone. Sunday I was shooting a fishery in Staffordshire and Monday and Tuesday I was shooting the snow (no not chasing the dragon) in Offham, near West Malling! I will post pics soon ;-)
